Nikki Haley, the US Foreign Affairs Secretary, has accused CNN's host Sunny Hostin of being a "racist". Here is why.

 The View co-host Sunny Hostin accused former Trump official Nikki Haley of seeking to conceal her ancestry by shortening her name from Nimrata Nikki Randhawa (Haley is her marital name). The general helped lead a social experiment in January in which she and other US troops who reported feeling racial bias within their ranks attempted to drive through the streets of New York City and pass as locals on their way home from work. After meeting with his staff, which even included his chief of staff and senior advisor, who have yet to discuss what he said in private meetings with Barr.

The interview was swiftly shut down by the two women, who exchanged blows. Show presenter Alyssa Farah Griffin then quelled the fight by patronizingly suggesting that Haley had been offended by Griffin's comment and that she should “practice humility” next time. Hostin angrily retorted, "Haley did not get offended. She knew it was coming and always has a comeback."

In the show, Sunny Hostin sharply criticized Haley for not doing more to fight discrimination, particularly in light of a recent incident at the University of Pennsylvania. The panel was discussing race relations and issues facing people of color in the workplace when Hostin mentioned, "I don't know if you have talked about this enough. If you're going to be an advocate for change and be an advocate for all people but especially in areas where we see disproportionate numbers of African-American CEOs, then why don't we try to maybe name our company after a woman of color?"

Haley is not the first to say that the name "Nikki" may make people uncomfortable, but she is the first one to treat a black woman's concern with respect. Her statement gives us all a more accurate idea of how she really feels about women of color.
